Etienne-Henri Martin

Etienne‑Henri Martin (1905-1997) was a French decorative artist, furniture designer and teacher. A graduate of École Boulle (metal department), in his youth he collaborated with Edgar Bran and already in 1925 received the Grand Prix for the design of the reception of the Paris Mayor's Office. He worked in the Primavera workshop, then in a leadership role at Ateliers Studium‑Louvre and at Le Bon Marché (Brussels). Since 1950, he has taught at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs, was treasurer of the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs committee, and participated in the design of the Council Hall of the League of Nations. He combined classical decorative elements and Art Nouveau, eventually moving to more free forms. Winner of the Prix Blumenthal. Among his iconic works are SK 250 chairs for Steiner with architectural plastics, light furniture of the 1500 series for TFM, as well as sophisticated Art Deco chairs made of sycamore and cherry. His objects are kept in the Mobilier National and the Museum of Modern Art in France.
